Who really benefits from the perpetuation of the "nation of immigrants" meme?

President Bush continues to modify his words to make it appear as if he's really interested in enforcing this nation's immigration laws. Polls continue to indicate he's not gaining additional trust. Saturday he took another stab at it in his weekly radio address.

Early in his address he once again defined this nation as a "nation of immigrants," which is as trite as it is preposterous. Nobody's ever been able to explain to me how a nation that has never had even 15 percent of its population as foreign born could be a "nation of immigrants." It just does not logically follow. Admittedly, it is a contempary meme, but it is a false one...and it is used more often than not to muddle the issues and stifle debate.

If by repeating the false meme he is claiming that this nation's independence was won by immigrants, he's wrong. This nation's independence was won by British citizens who fought to establish a sovereign nation that was separate from Britain. But the first American citizens were not immigrants. No "nation of immigrants" can be found there, either. Every person in the colonies was on one day, September 2, 1783, a British Citizen Colonist and the next, September 3, 1783, an American citizen. Prior to that day, there were no "immigrants" to the United States of America, and after that day there were no "colonists" in the new sovereign nation.

If the incessant drone of those who cling to the false "nation of immigrants" meme is actually making some sort of statement as to how our nation is comprised of people whose ancestors came to this physical spot on earth from elsewhere, it would be technically correct but not be "special." Every nation on earth was founded by people whose ancestors came from somewhere else. So why does Bush even mention it - much less cling to it?

I know why. And not just you're run-of-the-mill "on the surface" why.

I'm talking about the "deep-down, don't ever mention it because it is radio-active" why: while admittedly more prone to internecine strife and violence, a completely "multicultural" society is more likely to be a compliant and easily-manipulated society. The globalist/corporatist hegemony envisioned by Bush's elite buddies can only be attained in the long-term if the West, and the Protestant Christian mores and ethos that embued it with stature, are marginalized and, eventually, eliminated. The diminution of our nation via abdication of sovereignty is one way to get there, especially when the imports can only serve to lower the average national intellect.

The "nation of immigrants" false meme squares nicely with the myriad trappings of political correctness that are being used to fool us into giving away the keys to the kingdom, so to speak. For instance, a multicultural nation of immigrants must be "neo-tolerant." That is, this meme has required the invention of a new form of "tolerance" that isn't tolerance at all. To be truly "tolerant" requires only the recognition of others' differences and does not requre the tolerator to forfeit his or her right to disagree with those who differ, or to take action against those who differ if they become a threat. Neo-tolerance expects people in the majority to give up political power through the imposition of shame and guilt upon the very people who should be acting in their own self-interest and fully-leveraging their status as members of the majority.

Bush's liberal brand of neo-tolerance demands indoctrination along with the invention and perpetuation of falsehoods to sustain it. Politicians who repeat the nation of immigrants mantra are either consciously or stupidly speaking lies to power. All the while, the pro-open-borders meme remains a perfect foil for drowning out the voices of those of us in the majority who would be inclined to vocally oppose it.

So, when Bush and those who march lock-step with him make it clear that they put "cost" and "price" ahead of all other considerations, like sovereignty, it should chill even the most lazy student of history to the bone.
