Bush lies a bit less than expected, but...
...he's still pushing an amnesty program and calling it something else. Since I cannot conclude that he does not know this, I have to conclude he's lying again. This is so disappointing.
Who here has not learned that when someone tries to sell you something with just a wee bit of a zit-like lie on its face that there always are more dangerous lies and misrepresentations that remain hidden? I don't like my president making me read the freaking fine print to find out that the back-end cost is the legislative equivalent of usury. Fortunately, this president hasn't proved to be a very convincing loan shark. But we still need to set our b.s. deflectors to "shrill" when we call on Congress to stop this amnesty nonsense.
We need to ask:
Are those here today illegally going to step to the front of the line for the Temporary Guest Worker slots? If so, isn't that injurious to those who wish to get into the program? What sort of bureacracy are we going to have to set up to make sure that these de facto amnestied illegals remain employed, pay taxes, pay for health care coverage, do not use social services and do not in any way burden a single segment of our citizenry? How are you, Jefedente, going to assure that this new Federal monstrosity works better than my local DMV office? Where's the assurance that they cannot use the Anchor Baby loophole to get around their departure date? And, most importantly, how in the bloody hell are you going to find these people when it is time for them to go home?
I know the answer George: you don't care. You're lying to us now and won't be in office when we're all screwed over by this silly notion that is stuck somewhere way far up your Crawford craw. All I see with your plan is a super-sized replay of the 1986 Amnesty debacle. Why don't you just save us the rhetoric and admit you'd be happiest if you could grant the wish of the 60 percent of Mexicans who say they'd like to live here?
My God, I so viscerally detest weasels who can stand up there and lie like you did today!
I respect Congressman Tom Tancredo's thoughts on this and he's doing a better job of biting his lip than I am:

TANCREDO REACTS TO PRESIDENT'S BORDER SECURITY SPEECHI've got some additional problems with this "new" (repackaged is a better word) plan. Bush remains unclear on what he plans to do to handle the 20 million illegal aliens currently here. I strongly believe that they should be removed via attrition; that is, they should be left with no employment opportunities through strict, harsh and business-crippling penalties for companies that are the most egregious conspirators in this human shell game.
Congressman Praises Emphasis on Border Security, Pans President's Continued Push for Amnesty
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) gave the following comments in response to President Bush's speech on border security:
General Reaction
"I was encouraged by the President's emphasis on securing our borders and enforcing our current immigration laws. The very fact that he appeared on the border with law enforcement sends a message to illegal aliens that porous borders will not be tolerated any longer. However, as with all politicians who change their rhetoric and their policies under political pressure, the public must continue to push the Administration to follow up on its words. I think President Reagan said it best: we must trust but verify."
Ending 'Catch and Release'
"The President's push to end the dangerous policy of 'catch and release' is dead on. 'Catch and release' has for years made our attempt to enforce the law a farce because few who are released ever return to a court of law. Ending this policy alone will go a long way towards returning the rule of law to our immigration system."
Increased Border Patrol
"While I applaud the President for hiring more Border Patrol agents, I have to ask why he didn't do it years ago. Congress approved the hiring of 10,000 more border officers in the intelligence reform bill. I am cautiously optimistic that he'll get it right this time, and provide the necessary resources to gain control of our border."
'Temporary Guest Worker' Plan
"The President has come a long way on immigration since he proposed blanket amnesty for illegal aliens in January, 2004. He has talked tough on border security, and now he's even putting pressure on businesses that drive the demand side of the illegal immigration equation. But what the White House still hasn't grasped is that Americans will not tolerate amnesty, no matter what you call it. When the President proposes allowing illegal aliens in the U.S. to stay for six years-a privilege not granted to the millions who are waiting to come here the right way-he doesn't punish lawbreakers as our laws provide. By rewarding lawbreaking, the President only encourages more of the same."
