Buchanan weighs in on GOP big spending

Upon reading, I thought that this was a great follow-up to the previous post.

"When Republican leaders are saying there is no more fat in the federal budget, the proper political translation is that the Grand Old Party of Taft, Goldwater, Reagan and Helms is no more. We have become the very people we went into politics to run out of town."

This Republican Congress' and Administration's response to Katrina smacks not of knee-jerk liberalism but of a knee-jerk conversion to liberalism. I've read from some that Bush's response is a return to "compassionate conservatism." I think that sometimes fear is mistaken for compassion.
